Okay, really there is only me...
Hello, I'm Michael and I started getting together with friends to play Magic Gathering in and around 2017. After a few years and almost ten thousand cards in my collection, it got a bit crazy trying to keep track of the thirty different decks I had. To be honest, I was too cheap to buy deck boxes from the store. They’re awesome and some look really cool but thirty-plus boxes can get pricey!
So I started experimenting with different ways to create my own deck boxes. Initially I used cereal boxes and pop and beer packaging. Then I got more creative and began exploring recycling centres for cardboard. I checked out grocery and liquor stores for other packaging options as well.
Within a few months I finally nailed down my deck box design and while I’m not sure if I was the first to do this, I was the first one I knew of that had done this. Then I wondered, “How am I going to store all these of decks?” So, I decided to design my first case.
I preferred larger cases to accommodate more decks, so I began with 24-pack cases of pop and beer. The biggest challenge has been keeping the lid properly closed, so I'm continuously brainstorming new and improved ways to do that.
Then life became hectic, and my focus shifted away from playing cards for several years until I visited a game store that sold MTG and other cards. The employee really liked my ideas and that sparked the thought of turning this into a business.
Sooo, just a few months later and after a lot of hard work, The Cardboard Stencil Company was born...
