Why So Many Different Stencil Options?

Updated: Nov 11

When we first started exploring this idea, we looked into the most popular trading card games. Then, we tried to figure out how many cards were used in a deck. Since the numbers were all over the place (especially between different trading card games), we thought it’d be best to just make a stencil for each deck size.

But then we had to think about the whole sleeving thing. Some folks like to play cards without sleeves, while others use single or double sleeves. This led to even more variations in deck sizes, so we just created more stencils.

On top of that we found that card size was pretty much the same between the different brands and that some deck sizes were either the same or pretty close to each other. So we decided to combine them into one stencil; like the one you see above. This stencil can hold 40 single-sleeved cards or 80 non-sleeved ones.

This is why there are 20 different stencils, but 22 different deck sizes.

Some players really like using sideboards as well. Since we never made any stencils with that in mind, a cool perk of having so many sizes is that you can just size up your deck box to fit them in. For example, if you've got a 60-card deck with a 10 or 20 card sideboard, just go for an 80 card deck box.

Most stencils fit nicely on one page, but some ended up being a bit too big. So, we had to get a little creative...

We know most people use regular 8.5" x 11" paper for printing, so we stuck with that format. We split some stencils up across one or two pages and included instructions on how to piece them back together again. Sometimes, you'll need to glue two or three pieces together just to make a single stencil. This works well as long as the paperboard you're gluing them to is one solid piece and doesn't have any factory folds.

A factory fold is a crease added during manufacturing, allowing the paperboard to bend into the shape needed for packaging the product.

We hope we've got the deck size you're looking for, whether you like to sleeve your cards or not. If by chance we don't have what you need, just drop us a message with your request, and we'll see what we can do. In the meantime, we really hope you get tons of value and fun from what we offer and have an awesome time playing your games!
